Works as advertised. Was expecting it to be a bit easier to take on/off but it’s not so not a big deal to keep it on all the time. Just wanted to remove it and put it in the backpack when packrafting. Otherwise holds my 4-piece paddle, detachable fin for packraft with extra room to spare. Plenty of additional attachment points for connecting gear to the pocket instead of the pack. It’s a useful addition to the Porter that comes in handy for segmenting gear on long treks. Worth every penny picking it up.

Just what was missing…

A perfect addition to the Porter makes it so much more versatile like for ski touring to store the avalanche gear outside of the bag is a advantage

Yes but....

What I really want from Hyperlite is series of packs, call them the SouthWest Plus, that are the same horizontal circumference as the Porter, but with the built in pockets of the SouthWest. Or just make a SouthWest Plus 85.

Essential

I like the concept Hyperlite has for their packs of a simple large pocket to hold most of your gear, which can roll down from the top to the size you need. And then another modestly sized pocket (or 3 for non Porter packs) to put things in that you need to frequently access during the day--like lunch, water filter, jacket, etc. The Stuff Pocket enables this for the Porter, and I would think most owning that pack will want the Stuff Pocket. Its light, versatile, and completes the Porter.

Important addition to Porter

The stuff pocket is necessary for extra items like trowel, dirty camp shoes, etc. Made of sturdy but very light materials. I feel as if it should just be and integrated part of the pack instead of something to add, (like the Windrider), not something you have to add. I'd happily pay the extra price for a pack with it integrated.
