How to Choose a Pack Size

Your torso length, not your height, determines your pack size. We recommend the following to determine yours:

  1. Tilt your head slightly forward to locate the bony bump at the base of your neck. (This is your 7th cervical (or C7) vertebra).
  2. Using a flexible tape measure, have someone measure starting at that spot and running down along the curve of your spine.
  3. Place your hands on your hips so you can feel your iliac crest, which serves as the “shelf” of your pelvic girdle. (It’s the first hard thing you feel when you run your fingers down from the sides of your ribcage.) Position your hands so your thumbs are reaching behind you.
  4. Have your friend finish measuring at the point where the tape crosses an imaginary line drawn between your thumbs. This distance is your torso length.
    • Small (15.0” - 17.0” torso)
    • Medium (17.0” - 19.0” torso)
    • Large (19.0” - 21.0” torso)
    • Tall (21.0”+ torso)
  5. If your measurement falls right in between sizes (for example, if you have a 17.0” torso, so you are right on the line between a Small and a Medium), we suggest you choose the larger torso size.

Great lightweight pack for thruhiking with few caveat

Replaced my beat-up SOUTHWEST with Waypoint 35 for this season. Among other thing, I use this pack to hike AZT this year. The pack was great overall and internal frame helped me carrying heavy water during the dry sections of the trail. One note for people planning to use this pack to hike AZT is that, like any Dyneema-base pack, the material does not handle abrasive desert terrain really well and easy to poke hole on the pack. So be gentle when putting the pack down. And ensure to carry repair kit to fill scratch and holes as they are inevitable.

Only negative point I experienced for this pack was the chest straps or rather how easy they detach from the pack. Unlike SOUTHWEST, the chest strap is just hooked to shoulder straps and easy to fall for some reason. I lost mine about halfway through AZT and I can tell you it was not fun to carry pack without chest strap to stabilize. So hope Hyperlite improve the design of chest strap so that it does not fall easily when not under the tension.

great fit and lightness

The other day, I climbed Mt. Ontake. I carried probably around 8 kilograms of luggage on my back, but it felt very light. I feel happy that I was able to obtain such a wonderful item.

Needless to say, the pockets are easy to use. It's more than enough for my usage.

It would be perfect if there was a zipper at the bottom that gave access to the main cargo compartment.

In any case, there is no doubt that this item will always be with me on my future trips.
