UltaMid 2 – Ultralight Pyramid Tent

I took the Ultamid 2 with the full insert on a solo ascent of Long’s Peak and it performed perfectly. High winds batter many tents in the Boulderfield but this thing sheds high winds no problem. I used the full insert so I had plenty of room to spread out my stuff and organize my gear for an alpine start and summit. There was plenty of room for me and my pack explosion of gear inside. It’s lightweight, didn’t retain any water on a rainy first night and plenty big enough for me and lots of gear or even two people with gear properly organized. It will be the standard from here on out for mountain endeavors. I also have the carbon pole so I can leave the shelter standing and take my trekking poles with me. The entire system works great together and is outstanding for windy mountain endeavors!!!

I began using the Ultamid, dyneema ground sheet, and half insert setup in the spring of 2020. I was already in the process of section hiking the AT. I moved out of a small dome. The increased space was fantastic. Half the tent is my bedroom half my front porch. In the winter I use a bivy sack and the ground cloth inside. One of the most important things for me was being able to stake the tent out during heavy rain jump under onto my ground sheet zip the tent raise the pole. At that point I can reach out to tighten up any points. Do camp chores , cook, then eventually set up the insert and my bedroom. All in the dry. Reverse the process in the morning if it’s still raining. If it looks like rain I take the tent down last thing. My setup is 5 years old and is holding up well. I have some patches from falling sticks and stuff. I have used this setup to section hike the AT as well as a couple thousand other miles of backpacking.
