    Cold and windy stood strong

    I took my crosspeak 2 out for a cold weather test. The low temperature was 20 degrees Fahrenheit and there were 25 mph wind gusts. It held up incredibly well. Set up was extremely easy. It is a single wall tent so there was a bit of condensation but no drips and my down quilt was dry. This is an awesome tent. If hyperlite made a 1 person crosspeak I would take it on my next through hike.

    New old school tent

    This is basically the traditional freestanding dome tent, but with modern materials. It sets up/takes down easy, is light, doesn’t absorb moisture. I haven’t had a problem with condensation but I haven’t used it in rainy or real humid conditions.

    While it hasn’t got any glaring flaws (for me), I can think of two things that might be an improvement. These probably apply to most tents.

    1. Upper vents. Not so much for ventilation, although it can be good for that also. They would be nice as small windows do one doesn’t have to unzip the doors to peek outside.

    2. Ability to secure the vestibule to the side of the tent, eliminating the vestibule. This can be useful for narrow pitching. I am able to rig this with a clothes pin.

    Roomy. Sets up quickly. Sturdy. Breathes very well.

    Happy Backpacker :)

    I backpack and go section hiking on the Pacific Crest Trail here in Oregon. I tried the trekking pole tent set-up for about a year and decided this wasn’t for me. I want comfort, a ultra light Dyneema tent, a three-season free standing tent, and a large interior area to sleep and keep my gear inside. Fortunately HMG released the CrossPeak 2 in April of this year. I got to admit I got sticker-shock on the price. So, I asked myself two questions, (1) “I’m I into backpacking or I’m I into backpacking?” (2) How much money do I spend on a latte in a year? "I purchased the CrossPeak 2 and haven’t looked back. The Crosspeak 2 meets all my requirements and more!
