NAME: Morgan Valliere

POSITION AT HMG: Shipping Manager

YEARS WITH HMG: 5 years

WHAT’S YOUR BACKGROUND PRIOR TO WORKING HERE?

I was actually born and raised right here in Biddeford. I've always loved being outside, my family and I used to camp every summer in the White Mountains, and I've tried to keep that up throughout my adult life as well. Along with camping, I'm a big fan of hiking, overnight backpacking, and recently I've gotten into indoor climbing–hoping to try outdoor climbing soon.

WHAT’S YOUR PRIMARY ROLE IN THE SHIPPING DEPARTMENT?

As the Shipping Manager, I oversee and facilitate all warehouse operations, and manage our small team of two packer/shippers and myself. Receiving, organizing, and counting all finished goods inventory for direct consumers and wholesalers. Printing, processing, packaging and shipping all customer orders daily, as well as keeping track of all backordered product orders to ensure they go out the door as soon as they products become available. I also keep track of all shipping and office supplies (tape, paper, toilet tissue, cardboard, etc) to make sure no operations stop because of lack of material.

WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT BEING IN SHIPPING?

I find it very gratifying to know that I play an important role in our customer's adventures. Without our team, they wouldn't have some of the best gear in the world to visit some of the most beautiful places in the world.

IN TERMS OF DAYS, EVENTS, OR SEASONS, WHAT ARE A FEW YOU LOOK BACK ON AND THINK, “OH HECK YEAH!”?

One of the moments I frequently look back on is the week after Black Friday 2023, we had a super successful sale, and we were totally swamped with orders. We had members of every other department in the warehouse packing, shipping, building boxes. You know it's not every day you get to see the CEO of your company down in the warehouse working hard to get orders out the door.

BASED ON SOME RETURNS YOU SEE, WHAT’S YOUR NUMBER ONE TIP FOR ORDERING THE RIGHT GEAR THE FIRST TIME, OR MAKING A PIECE OF GEAR LAST LONGER?

I definitely think we have some really great resources on the website to help you get the sizing right the first time. I think wrong sized packs are what we see most often in returns. We can even walk you through the sizing if you give us a call–we want to get you the right pack and the right size ASAP so you can start enjoying them sooner.
