The UltaMid 4 has the dimensions to accommodate a group of four, serve as a basecamp shelter, or provide protection for packrafting, alpine expeditions, or bikepacking gear. When it comes to portable shelters, few designs have been as thoroughly time-tested and proven as those built in the pyramid-style. They’re easy to set up, efficiently spacious, and because of things like physics, incredibly capable of providing sanctuary in all but the most extreme weather.

While the remarkable 22.4 oz. weight of the UltaMid 4 will be a welcome reduction to any kit’s overall mass, you can put any concerns to rest that it translates to a sacrifice in durability. The Ultamid 4 can be pitched high off the ground or tight to the ground. Set up with adjustable trekking poles or suspend from the central peak. UltaMid Inserts, Ultralight Stake Kit, and UltaMid Carbon Fiber Tent Pole sold separately.

Got this tent and immediately took it on a 5 day packraft down the Copper River in Alaska. We had wind, silt, bugs, rain, you name it. The tent stood up great, was easy to pitch and breakdown by myself, and stayed clean despite all the river dust. The zipper needed a good clean by the end of the trip but once done it was good as new!

Awesome tent! Light and rugged.

Light and durable. Hard to find a light weight tent that holds up in high wind conditions like this one.

Good tent, not for rain-soaked areas

Overall I’m very pleased with the design, weight, ease of setup, and quality build. However, took it out for a two week Alaska camping trip early October and faced two days of light but continuous rain early on. We set up camp on a dry day. The tent appeared to “wet out” similar to Gore-Tex once it’s saturated/water-logged and it no longer provided a viable rain barrier. Micro-droplets continuously dropped on us throughout the night (far more than normal condensation build-up) and left us with very wet sleeping bags and gear. There was also some leakage through the main door zipper. With temperatures rapidly dropping and no place to dry our wet gear we had to cancel the remainder of our trip.

This is a very cool design and sets up quickly. Lots of space inside. However, I would not trust it in a wet environment (the very reason I bought this tent/fabric) and will now be setting/suspending a tarp over the top (additional weight and setup time). Probably ok for a few hours of rain followed by sunlight or a drying period. Great tent for Cali or drier southwest; not so much for AK or PNW…not without at least some additional rain protection.

Best tent ever!

I just got this tent almost 20 days ago and i had a bunch of amaizing trips with it, its very light even if my bag if full packed up, i usually hike with my gf off grid or going to outoor activities like rafting, climbing, via ferrata, trekking etc. Even normal weekend/picnic camping is awesome! The tent is very roomy, ultralight and 100% waterproof. I will definetly buy other products in future!

Fantastic service

The fabric of my UltraMID 4 shelter slowly started to fall apart, quite a period after the waranty had expired. I had used it around 12 weeks in total. This is very disappointing for such an expensive shelter that is claimed to be extremely strong. The only reaction of the retailer (Outdoorline.sk) was: out of warranty, so bad luck! Very bad, I should say. Next, I contacted HMG directly myself, and they were very kind. They confirmed that this was a production failure. They replaced it with a complete new shelter, for which I only had to pay the shipping costs. This is what real customer service should be; besides formality there exists something like "fairness". Outdoorline.sk should learn from that. Thank you very much HMG.
