How to Choose a Pack Size

Your torso length, not your height, determines your pack size. We recommend the following to determine yours:

  1. Tilt your head slightly forward to locate the bony bump at the base of your neck. (This is your 7th cervical (or C7) vertebra).
  2. Using a flexible tape measure, have someone measure starting at that spot and running down along the curve of your spine.
  3. Place your hands on your hips so you can feel your iliac crest, which serves as the “shelf” of your pelvic girdle. (It’s the first hard thing you feel when you run your fingers down from the sides of your ribcage.) Position your hands so your thumbs are reaching behind you.
  4. Have your friend finish measuring at the point where the tape crosses an imaginary line drawn between your thumbs. This distance is your torso length.
    • Small (15.0” - 17.0” torso)
    • Medium (17.0” - 19.0” torso)
    • Large (19.0” - 21.0” torso)
    • Tall (21.0”+ torso)
  5. If your measurement falls right in between sizes (for example, if you have a 17.0” torso, so you are right on the line between a Small and a Medium), we suggest you choose the larger torso size.

    Great Daypack with Limitations

I hate to be a shill for “Big Cottage” but here I am. I love this pack for day hikes, overnights, and even a couple of nights.

This pack lets me carry like I’m using a mini UL backpack - front pocket (a little small), water bottle pockets for Smartwater bottles, and a generous main compartment. Strap to keep a rain jacket handy if it’s that kind of day, or just to compress the load. And waterproof (but not taped) and reasonably durable.

But there are a couple of caveats. If your carry weight exceeds 15 lbs then this will hang off your shoulders like a sack of potatoes. Don’t expect to put too much in the front pocket (**** kit, light jacket, a few snacks). If you need more access on the move, maybe add a shoulder strap pocket and/or bottle holder.

If you’re under 10 lbs then strip the waist belt. If you want more access, I hear the Unbound belt with pockets will fit, but I haven’t tried.

I also really like the narrow dimensions. I just wish the water bottle pockets were a little tighter for scrambling.

Every pack has compromises. The Elevate 22 just has fewer than most, it fits my gear, and it fits my needs.

    Happy Hiker!

I’m so happy with my new daypack! It’s light as air but can carry plenty of essentials for a full day out on the trail. I received it in the mail and immediately went out for a trial run, logging 6 quick miles from 19E to Doll Flats on the AT near my home. I really liked the way it carried…no squeaking, which I have experienced with my other Dyneema packs. It felt great without using the hip belt but it’s nice to have the option for heavier loads.

    Good pack; slow shipping

Good pack; just wish the company was faster at processing and shipping orders. Very slow.

    Awsome pack for the extreme

Traveling light in the rugged desert was great with the 22 pack. Was able to hit all the summits with this light but capable pack. The side pockets are great and carries enough liquid. Easy to climb with.
