How to Choose a Pack Size

Your torso length, not your height, determines your pack size. We recommend the following to determine yours:

  1. Tilt your head slightly forward to locate the bony bump at the base of your neck. (This is your 7th cervical (or C7) vertebra).
  2. Using a flexible tape measure, have someone measure starting at that spot and running down along the curve of your spine.
  3. Place your hands on your hips so you can feel your iliac crest, which serves as the “shelf” of your pelvic girdle. (It’s the first hard thing you feel when you run your fingers down from the sides of your ribcage.) Position your hands so your thumbs are reaching behind you.
  4. Have your friend finish measuring at the point where the tape crosses an imaginary line drawn between your thumbs. This distance is your torso length.
    • Small (15.0” - 17.0” torso)
    • Medium (17.0” - 19.0” torso)
    • Large (19.0” - 21.0” torso)
    • Tall (21.0”+ torso)
  5. If your measurement falls right in between sizes (for example, if you have a 17.0” torso, so you are right on the line between a Small and a Medium), we suggest you choose the larger torso size.

      A good mule!

      I bought the Porter as a bulky load approach pack for alpine climbing and a replacement for my old tattered porter...and it fulfills this role in a satisfying way.

      Enough place for 1 week + gear, 30l climbing pack etc. and pretty waterproof.

      The quality of the sewing work is professional (I'm a professional in this craft myself), there are rumors about quality loss since the packpack manifacturing moved to Mexico, but this is really not the case.

      Porter pack perfect for search and rescue team

      I recently purchased a porter pack as my dedicated ready pack for my search and rescue team. Another team member has been using one also and thought it was just perfect for the job. I have to agree. The caring capacity is excellent and sometimes we have to carry quite a bit of equipment, depending on what type of a search or rescue we are dealing with. It’s nice to have a light durable pack to accomplish this job.

      So far, so good.

      Just received my 70L black Porter w/the additional pocket and a water bottle holder and a shoulder strap pouch. The pocket was a little tricky to install, but doable. Can't wait to take it on a packrafting trip! My only minor gripe is they don't throw in ANY swag with purchases. For the price we pay they could throw in some stickers to put on my car or water bottle. Lol.

      Great Pack,

      Multiple trips in Eastern Sierra, most recently 120 miles South Lake to Whitney Portal (over six 12,000+ passes, October 1-10, 2024 -- the same trip I made 34 years ago carrying a way too heavy cordura pack), love the clean lines for trail and off trail travel (everything fitting inside , along with the exterior addition attached to daisy chains on back). After a few trips I took out the metal interior stays, which pressed against lower hips (really helped to dial in the pack). Have a couple of Southwests too, along with an early Echo2, which I took on this trip (see photo) but mostly sleeping out under the moonless night stars and setting up when the weather turned) and an Ultamid 2 -- all great,
