How to Choose a Pack Size

How to Choose a Pack SizeYour torso length, not your height, determines your pack size. We recommend the following to determine yours:

  1. Tilt your head slightly forward to locate the bony bump at the base of your neck. (This is your 7th cervical (or C7) vertebra).
  2. Using a flexible tape measure, have someone measure starting at that spot and running down along the curve of your spine.
  3. Place your hands on your hips so you can feel your iliac crest, which serves as the “shelf” of your pelvic girdle. (It’s the first hard thing you feel when you run your fingers down from the sides of your ribcage.) Position your hands so your thumbs are reaching behind you.
  4. Have your friend finish measuring at the point where the tape crosses an imaginary line drawn between your thumbs. This distance is your torso length.
    • Small (15.0” - 17.0” torso)
    • Medium (17.0” - 19.0” torso)
    • Large (19.0” - 21.0” torso)
  5. If your measurement falls right in between sizes (for example, if you have a 17.0” torso, so you are right on the line between a Small and a Medium), we suggest you choose the larger torso size.

How to Choose a Pack Size

The Aero 28 features an ergonomic vest-strap harness system that sits close and comfortably to the body with integrated shoulder and storage pockets that allow multi-day fastpackers to keep everything they need outside of the pack and set up to carry onward.

  • Optimized-for-access vest strap harness system keeps hydration and calories within reach
  • Secure fixed yoke attachment of vest straps to pack
  • Roll-top pack closure with single over-the-top compression strap and large outer stretch pocket
  • Water bladder hang loop and hydroport
  • Bottom stretch mesh snack pocket with trash port
  • Dyneema Grid Stop side pockets angled for easy access and better retention of contents
  • Fit: Take into account your typical pack size and shirt size, as well as your body type and chest measurements. With the running vest design and the likelihood of some stretch, opting for a smaller size may provide a better fit for those with a slimmer build.

Training for Arizona 300

Just picked up their new fast pack, needed some extra space for my sleeping gear and nutrition. The two flask pockets in the front is what overnight explorations needed so I can get to my electrolytes with ease. I’m currently Training for Arizona 300 and felt I needed some extra space and the pack actually feels comfortable with weight. Currently hitting it hard in Joshua tree and cross country travel through the park. So far love the pack only thing I would change is more zipper pockets in the front and a tad bigger. Planning this winter to put long desert miles back to back days prepping for this race In April. By then I can really see how this pack will hold up. So far amazing purchase.

Nice pack, not for me

Of course it's well made, but the fit just wasn't for me. The hip belt is more like an abdominal belt, rides very high. And the side water bottles aren't easily accessible while the pack is on because it sits so high. That's not what I was hoping for, for me. I did get the largest size, I'm 6'4. Might not be an issue for someone of a different height or with shorter arms.

ALMOST PERFECT

Just got back from doing a 40 mile overnighter in the Cascades with this pack. Pack was comfortable and carried well, even while jogging. Got a medium and it fit me perfectly (5'9" 140 lbs). The adjustable side straps let you dial the fit depending on your layers and speed (run vs hike). Materials and construction are top notch. My only gripe is the pole carrying system. The strap provided does little to nothing to help the poles in place and my poles even dropped out once while scrambling. As a result, I had to stow my poles in the side pocket. If they can dial a pole carrying system that works in this pack, it would be 5 out of 5.

So Far, So Good, and So Light

I did my first hike with the Aero 28 on October 6, 2024. Rim to Rim of Grand Canyon from Bright Angel to North Rim. Packed my stuff up for a quick day hike, but with some extras in case of any surprises. My pack weight was probably about 10lbs including water as all of the water stations were in service. Temps were in the low 90s around Phantom Ranch.

The pack wears well and is comfortable right out of the box. I literally took the tags off the day before I started my hike. Adjustment was easy and the fit was superb. I bought a medium and it fit great. I’m 5’8 and weigh about 155lbs and my torso is right at about 19”.

Weight distribution was really good with the shoulder straps and I never had the feeling of them digging into me, even after helping another hiker that was in distress and loaded all their gear into my pack, pushing my pack weight closer to 20lbs for the last 6 miles that took nearly 5 hours.

The zippered phone pocket will only fit an iPhone mini with ease. I just ended up using one of the open pockets for my phone. No fault of the pack as I have the problems with every pack I have, but I was unable to reach the water bottle pockets if I loosened up the shoulder straps and pulled the pack to the side a little bit so I could reach it. The shoulder water bottle pockets are big enough for a 20oz Smart Water bottle or some 600ml soft flasks. The open pocket at the bottom of the main pack was easy to access and was clutch for trash from snacking on the go.…
