How to Choose a Pack Size

Your torso length, not your height, determines your pack size. We recommend the following to determine yours:

Tilt your head slightly forward to locate the bony bump at the base of your neck. (This is your 7th cervical (or C7) vertebra).
Using a flexible tape measure, have someone measure starting at that spot and running down along the curve of your spine.
Place your hands on your hips so you can feel your iliac crest, which serves as the “shelf” of your pelvic girdle. (It’s the first hard thing you feel when you run your fingers down from the sides of your ribcage.) Position your hands so your thumbs are reaching behind you.
Have your friend finish measuring at the point where the tape crosses an imaginary line drawn between your thumbs. This distance is your torso length.
Small (15.0” - 17.0” torso)
Medium (17.0” - 19.0” torso)
Large (19.0” - 21.0” torso)
Tall (21.0”+ torso)
If your measurement falls right in between sizes (for example, if you have a 17.0” torso, so you are right on the line between a Small and a Medium), we suggest you choose the larger torso size.

Figuring out how to suck less

I was UNFAIRLY critical of this bag , being that I still suffered still after purchasing / using . I went out for a 30 mi trip 3x (same route a few weeks apart) with a different bag each time . outing #1 was with the northrim 55 , outing #2 was an osprey aether 85 , outing #3 was an arcetyrx alpha 30 . I suffered the least with the 30 probably due to a lighter more compact load but living out of it was a chore . The aether soaked up sweat and ate me alive . The Northrim was great until I fatigued . Ultimately I just needed to improve my physical conditioning (endurance / reducing my fat composition) / reduce some gear / substitute for more efficient gear ( not necessarily lighter gear) The thing with this style of bag is ,that it is surprisingly adaptable to whatever the situation is . The bottom line is that the bag is legit & Im the problem - cheers to sucking less !

Awesome pack

This pack is great. I have had 60+ pounds in it and it still maintains good comfort and stability. The outside pocket I do not think I will ever have an issue with wearing out. You can easily rig a brain onto this pack, which makes it that much more enjoyable. Impossible to regret the purchase, and I will feel the same about the next one I am sure.

A bush whacking machine!

I work off track in New Zealand for 30 days at a time and this pack holds up!

The forest in New Zealand is incredibly rough on gear so I opted for the North Rim for its durability but also its generous outer pockets which I love so much.

I can store my sandals, jacket, snacks eyc in the big pocket and heaos of water in the sides. The top rolls down enough that this pack can be used as a 'Carry On' on flights then extended up again when I need it to be. It's also insanely comfortable for such a simple pack. I'm a petite woman of 164cm and wear a Medium. I can carry 20kg happily.

The only improvement would be slightly wider cumfier shoulder straps with pockets up high for phone or camera. All in all an incredible and versitile pack that stands up to abuse!

Thanks Hyperlite!!!
