Powered by The World's Strongest Fiber
When it comes to strength and tear resistance, Dyneema® offers unparalleled performance. In fact, it can deliver the exact tear and tensile strength a product requires by altering the density of fibers in our Dyneema Composite Fabrics. In addition, fabrics with Dyneema have high tear strength and are used to create our lightweight, durable, and water resistant packs, shelters, and organizational accessories.
Dyneema Composite Fabrics are completely waterproof and, unlike nylons or silnylons, don’t stretch or sag in wet weather. All Dyneema Composite Fabrics are made using 100% bio-based Dyneema fiber, which carries a 90% lower carbon footprint than generic HMPE fiber. Then there’s the energy used in our manufacturing processes – 100% of which comes from renewable sources.

SUSTAINABLY SOURCED, SAME INCREDIBLE PERFORMANCE
Our mission at Hyperlite Mountain Gear – now and into the future – is to not only build the best backcountry gear in the world, but also to adopt methods that allow us to build it in the best way possible. We’re excited to announce that we’ve continued our decade-long partnership with Dyneema to integrate their new bio-based Dyneema fiber into our line of outdoor gear.Technically classified as Ultra-High-Molecular-Weight Polyethylene (UHMWPE), Dyneema fibers are produced by extruding a UV-resistant polyethylene gel through a spinneret. In a patented process, the fiber is drawn, heated, stretched, and cooled. The result is a filament with exceptional long-chain molecular alignment and high crystallization that limits density while allowing for uncommon load dispersion. At one-thousandth of an inch in thickness, Dyneema has a remarkable strength-to-weight ratio that makes it the strongest fiber in the world.
DYNEEMA HYBRIDS
Dyneema hybrids are a combination of Dyneema composite fabrics laminated to a woven face fabric resulting in an ultralight and ultra-durable material.
Face fabrics can range from lightweight polyester, nylon or 100% woven Dyneema depending on end-use and performance requirements.
The weight of the face fabric is customizable according to performance requirements. Face fabric weights are expressed as a denier e.g. 50 or 100 denier.
Polyester face fabric is used when a lighter weight and more economical option is desired. Dyneema face fabric allows double Dyneema toughness. When performance requires the highest durability, Dyneema Composites are laminated to 100% Dyneema woven face fabric.
DYNEEMA COMPOSITES
Dyneema composites are high-performance, non-woven, rip-stop, composite laminates. They are produced from oriented fiber layers. The layers are then surface coated with layers of polyester film to deliver 100% waterproof fabrics that are highly durable and light enough to float on water.
The fabric’s weight is customized according to its end use. Lighter weights deliver flexibility, reduce pack weight whilst still delivering tear-resistance and durability. Heavier weights deliver additional durability and abrasion resistance and are applied to points of higher vulnerability.
The material’s unique properties allow for continual flex at stress points without compromising strength or structural integrity. Lighter than Silnylon but stronger than Kevlar, Dyneema Composite Fabrics are 100% waterproof prior to stitching with high chemical and UV resistance. Originally designed for use in high tech sails for America’s Cup racing boats, and formerly known as Cuben Fiber, Dyneema Composite Fabrics are regarded as the premium material of choice for modern ultralight backpacking tents, tarps, and stuff sacks.
HOW DYNEEMA FABRICS ARE CREATED AND TESTED
Dyneema fiber is a form of ultra high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) that has been molecularly engineered to make it the world's strongest fiber™.
Dyneema Composite Fabric is created using layers of Dyneema fibers specially tailored to deliver the required strength, stretch, weight, and minimum thickness. To ensure that outdoor gear made with
Dyneema performs to the highest standards, state-of-the-art capabilities are used to test the fabrics according to the demands of their end-use application.
